Around Saia

This month's Around Saia features stories on the opening of our new Missouri terminal and Saia LTL Freight receiving the 2018 SmartWay Excellence Award.

New Missouri Terminal Opens

Saia LTL Freight opened its new state-of-the-art cross-dock facility in Strafford, Missouri earlier this month. Strafford is part of the Springfield, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area and is situated approximately 14 miles northeast of the city.

The new terminal is double the size of the previous Springfield-area facility and will allow Saia to meet the needs of shippers for years to come. The standalone terminal is situated on nearly five acres and features an expansive dock, administrative space, and a formal training room. It is located on West Old Route 66. Springfield is the seventh terminal we’ve opened this year.

Saia LTL Freight Receives 2018 SmartWay Excellence Award

Honor is EPA's highest recognition for leadership in supply chain energy and environmental performance

Saia LTL Freight has been named a 2018 SmartWay Excellence Award recipient by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The award was presented at the 2018 American Trucking Associations Annual Management Conference & Exhibition in Austin, Texas. Saia was one of 40 carriers to receive the distinction, representing the best environmental performers of SmartWay’s 3700 partners.

SmartWay is a voluntary program that supports companies’ initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions created by the transportation industry. The SmartWay Partnership is a domestic and international freight and supply chain program that manages data for partners, like Saia, across all domestic shipping modes in the U.S. and Canada. SmartWay implements its goals to lower freight carbon footprints by conducting analysis and research of freight impacts, engaging with freight experts, anticipating and responding to trends, developing strategic resources and communication strategies, and serving as an international model.

EPA Assistant Administrator of the Office of Air and Radiation Bill Wehrum said the EPA honored top-performing SmartWay Carrier Partners, like Saia, with this year’s 2018 SmartWay Excellence Award, for their leadership in moving more goods with less fuel and that such companies inspire others in the freight sector to invest in innovative technologies and business practices that save fuel, while reducing costs and protecting the environment.
