Company Update

This month's Company Update highlights a new role for Saia. Also featured, several new terminal managers and a new operations manager.

Hill Named Vice President of Organizational Development, Diversity & Inclusion, and Talent

Jerrold Hill has joined the Saia team in a new role for the company, vice president of organizational development, diversity & inclusion, and talent. As a seasoned business executive, Jerrold has spent more than 20 years delivering results in human resources, operations, and supplier diversity at several well-known companies.

Most recently, he served as vice president of human resources at Artera Services, a provider of integrated infrastructure services to the energy industry. There, he led the organizational strategy for attracting, developing, and retaining talent.

Before this, Jerrold was vice president of human resources at Southern Company Gas (AGL Resources). In this role, he was responsible for leading the overall people strategy, including the single largest merger integration in the energy industry. While there, he also held several cross-functional roles with increasing responsibility, from human resources to distribution operations, and supplier diversity, where he led the transformation of the company’s business diversity from a compliance program to a vital component of the organization’s goals and enterprise values.

Prior to Southern Company Gas, he spent five years with Bridgestone Americas.

Jerrold earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Oklahoma. Additionally, he has served on several professional and nonprofit boards, including Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and the 100 Black Men of DeKalb.

Johnson Named JCY/ROA Terminal Manager

Roderick Johnson has been named Saia’s new Johnson City, Tennessee/Roanoke, Virginia (JCY/ROA) zone manager. Roderick joined the company in 2018 and has worked as both a supervisor and city driver. He has 12 years of transportation experience and graduated from Christopher Newport University in Virginia with a degree in business management.

New Terminal Managers/Operations Manager Named in CIN Region

David Axley has been named our new Cincinnati, Ohio (CIN) terminal manager. David joined Saia in 2014 and has worked at several terminals in various capacities, including as an operations manager, assistant terminal manager, and zone and terminal manager.

He has 15 years of experience working in the transportation industry and has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Middle Tennessee State University.

Thomas Phillips has been named our new Indianapolis, Indiana (IND) terminal manager. Like David, Thomas joined Saia in 2014 and has also worked at several facilities in different roles, including as a dock supervisor, operations manager, assistant terminal manager and zone and terminal manager.

He has seven years of industry experience and possesses a bachelor’s degree in science from Catawba College in North Carolina.

Lastly, but certainly not least, Heather Lee has been named our new Saginaw, Michigan (SAG) operations manager. Though new to the company, Heather has 19 years of transportation industry experience behind her. Prior to joining the Saia team, she worked in operations and as a terminal manager for two other carriers.
