Appeal Review Committee Looking for Volunteers

Saia is looking for volunteers for the Appeal Review Committee (ARC) beginning May 6.

The Appeal Review Committee (ARC) provides recently terminated employees with an opportunity to have their cases reviewed by a committee of their peers to ensure a fair and impartial decision led to their termination.

While ARC was established 10 years ago, the program’s long-defined purpose reflects Saia’s newly announced core values, in particular Taking Care of Each Other, Dignity and Respect, and Do the Right Thing. Since its inception, ARC has reviewed the petitions of 375 employees and subsequently returned 15 employees back to work.

The ARC panel consists of volunteer Saia employees who have met ARC’s eligibility requirements, which is why we are again asking for employees across the Saia network to volunteer to be a panelist. By volunteering, ARC panelists provide a great service to not only their fellow employees but to the company as well.

Training for new panelists, who will be paid for their time and travel, will be held from July 14-16, 2019 at the ACO. A volunteer sign-up form, which can be found on the Employee Information Center (EIC) beginning May 6, will need to be returned to the ACO Human Resource Department no later than May 24.

Saia recognizes that every employee has the right to be treated fairly and consistently - especially when issues arise regarding disciplinary terminations. While ARC is not intended to prevent or discourage employees from using Saia’s Open Door Policy, we believe it provides employees an opportunity to have their disciplinary termination appeal reviewed using an impartial process.

We are proud that ARC continues to be a part of the company's ongoing commitment to employees, who are our most important asset.
