Company Update

This month's Company Update spotlights the announcement of the new executive vice president and chief human resources officer and several promotions.

Block Named National Account Executive

Donna Block has been named a national account executive. Donna has 10 years of experience in the transportation industry. After returning to Saia in 2017, she advanced her career from account executive to enterprise account executive. She is a graduate of Georgia Southern University. Her success in the field over the years, along with the unparalleled relationships she’s cultivated with her customers, made her an easy choice to make this transition.

Deerr Receives District Sales Manager Promotion

Michael Deerr was promoted to district sales manager for the Chicago Region. Michael joined the Saia team in 2020 and had been serving as our Des Moines, Iowa senior account executive. He was named a 2021 President’s Club winner. Michael has been in the LTL industry for 15 years, both in a direct selling capacity and in management roles with another carrier.

National Sales Manager Named

Scott Haistings has been named a national sales manager. In this role, he will both direct and support our national field sales representatives in managing our national account business commitments, including but not limited to business mix, revenue and profitability. He will also provide support for all of our national account executives with communication and execution of new customer and business rollouts as well as engaging in new/existing request for proposal opportunity data collection when field support is needed. With 22 years of industry experience, Scott joined Saia in 2014 and had been serving as a national account executive. He possesses a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.

Hesse Assumes Terminal Manager Role

Bob Hesse accepted the position of terminal manager for the LaSalle, Illinois (LIL) facility. Bob brings 30 years of LTL experience, spanning all aspects of the operation, to his new position. Having most recently served in a regional leadership role, his perspective will allow him to lead the LIL team into this new market for Saia. As a proud Chicago area native, his professional and personal knowledge of this market will continue to accelerate the positive experience in the industry known as Saia.

Memphis Region Welcomes New Manager

Jason Horton was named the regional manager for our Memphis Region. For the past year, he had successfully been serving as the terminal manager for our Atlanta, Georgia (ATL) facility. Jason began his career at the company 13 years ago and has continuously shown great leadership, along with the ability to achieve outstanding operational results. While he was at our Greensboro, North Carolina facility, he won President’s Club and did an excellent job during his time at the ATL terminal.

Kyle Named Corporate Benefits Manager

Misty Kyle was named Saia’s new corporate benefits manager. In this position, she will oversee both the company’s employee benefits program and retirement plan. She will be domiciled at the Atlanta Corporate Office.

Misty has 15 years of human resources (HR) experience, having worked for a variety of organizations in the North Atlanta-area including the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners; Forsyth County Government; the Gilmer and Gwinnett County School systems; and State Farm Insurance. She possesses a bachelor’s degree in HR management from Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. She holds both a “Professional in Human Resources” and a “Society for Human Resources Management Certified Professional” certification.

Norwood Named New Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer

Anthony Norwood has been named our new executive Vice president and chief human resources (HR) officer. In this position, Tony will lead all aspects of HR at the company developing Saia’s human capital strategy and leading the execution of strategies and tactics to expand our organizational capability. In addition, he will be responsible for ensuring that Saia’s people strategy supports the recruitment, development, and retention of our industry leading team. 

Tony joins the company from Trane Technologies, where he held the role of vice president, HR – corporate. Prior to this, he served in various HR executive roles at Ingersoll Rand. Tony previously held positions of increasing responsibility at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated, Merck & Co., Inc. and the New Ventures Group of Lucent Technologies. He began his HR career with Amoco Corporation. Tony possesses a bachelor’s degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University and a master’s degree in global HR leadership from Rutgers University.

Pulliam Receives Promotion; Named Corporate Manager of Strategic Accounts

David Pulliam has been named our corporate manager of strategic Accounts. David joined Saia just over 10 years ago as national account executive managing corporate accounts in the Southeast. He has demonstrated strong leadership skills both internally and externally and is a true advocate for our customers having earned President’s Club honors three times during his career. David has consistently ranked at the top of his peer group from both a profit and growth perspective, effectively executing our go-to-market strategies for both Saia and LinkEx. In his new role, he will be responsible for developing deep strategic relationships with key corporate accounts and will report directly to me.    

Prior to joining our company, David spent over 20 years working for the two largest carriers in the transportation industry in various corporate sales positions, consistently winning awards, in addition to holding management positions in both operations and HR. For five years, he was the vice president of logistics/supply chain for a privately-held company in Atlanta. He possesses a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgia State University.

Rhodes Receives Promotion

Adam Rhodes has been named a national account executive. In this role, he will be responsible for accounts in the following states:  Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

Adam has 20 years of experience in the transportation industry. He grew up working the dock for a regional carrier, Wichita Southeast Kansas Transit. He also worked the dock for another carrier through college. After graduating from Pittsburg State University in Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in management and marketing, he became a terminal manager for a national carrier, working for seven years at several of their locations. Adam joined Saia in 2013 and has been serving as a business development executive.

Shoemaker Named Director of Sales Operations

Tim Shoemaker has been named director of sales operations, a new position at Saia tasked with managing support functions essential to our sales force’s productivity. His responsibilities include sales process optimization, sales planning and training, the creation and implementation of sales enablement programs, and driving/owning the new customer onboarding process. Tim has 20 years of experience in the transportation industry and seven years in warehouse management. Prior to this, he served as a non-commissioned officer in the U. S. Marine Corps. 

Tim began his career at Saia in 2005 as the manager/account executive for our Sioux Falls, South Dakota (SXF) and South Sioux City, IA (SSX) terminals. In 2010, Tim was promoted to the regional sales manager role in KCY. He was frequently called upon by senior management to participate in planning meetings, as well as by many other managers for his insights. His focused approach, creative mind, and analytical thinking, are always on display.

BLM Terminal Manager Named

Vance Thompson has accepted the position of terminal manager for our Bloomington, Illinois (BLM) facility. Vance brings 20 years of LTL experience in inbound, outbound, dispatch, and most recently, as the Jacksonville, Florida (JAX) hub coordinator.

Wishart Moves to New Position

Christopher Wishart has taken on the role of terminal manager for our Tampa, Florida (TPA) facility. Chris moved back to Florida to assume this position so he can spend more quality time with his family. 

As you know, he has been serving as a regional manager since 2019. During this time, he successfully assisted Saia with opening nine terminals in the Northeast. We are grateful for his leadership over these last few years and appreciate his dedication to the company and our employees.
