Moore Attends Trucker Jamboree

HST Line Driver and America's Road Team Captain James Moore recently attended the 2017 Truckers Jamboree in Walcott, Iowa. Since its inception in 1979, the jamboree has been celebrating America's truckers.

The event is a great place to celebrate and learn about trucking as well as the equipment used in the industry. It's the truck stop's way of saying thank you to the millions of truck drivers that deliver the goods we consume each year.

Video Wins National Award

"The Past - Saia LTL Freight," a video featuring many company employees that was shown at this year's annual meeting and during our February employee meetings, received a 2017 Award of Distinction at the 23rd Annual Communicator Awards.

Staver Presents at Atlanta Rotary Club Luncheon

Director of Safety Karla Staver recently appeared as part of a panel discussing the impact of workplace sleep health programs. Representatives from Southern Company, Delta Air Lines as well as Fusion Health & Fusion Sleep Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer Sleep Dr. Jeffrey Durmer provided their expertise on the topic to the 500 professionals in attendance. The discussion was moderated by AJC Editor Kevin Reilly.

Staver shared her insight on initiating a sleep health program, focusing on sleep apnea, at Saia. Sleep apnea, a breathing-related sleep disorder that causes brief interruptions of breathing during sleep, makes it difficult for sufferers to stay awake, focus their eyes, and react quickly while driving. In general, studies show that people with untreated sleep apnea have an increased risk of being involved in a fatigue-related motor vehicle crash. Sleep apnea is a serious, potentially life-threatening condition that often goes unrecognized and undiagnosed. The panel hoped to bring attention to the "impact of sleep problems in the American workforce."
