Saia Announces TriHealth Healthy Directions

As you have learned, we have decided to take our wellness initiative to the next level, which is why we replaced the “Saia Delivering Wellness” program with “TriHealth Healthy Directions” last month.

This new initiative emphasizes the importance of primary care visits for employees and participating spouses with regard to preventive care. Remember these visits will be covered by our health plan at 100%, so there will be no out-of-pocket cost to you. We want employees and their participating spouses to see their primary care physicians (PCP) to receive preventative care including recommended mammograms, Pap smears, colorectal exams, and more.

Choosing a PCP is an important step in taking charge of your health as this relationship is an integral part of your care experience. For instance, if you need to see other medical specialists or providers, your PCP can help recommend or coordinate treatments to ensure you receive the right care at the right time.

As such, we want to provide some questions for you to consider when selecting a PCP. Ask yourself:

  • Is the doctor “in-network”?
  • Does the doctor practice at the hospital of my choice?
  • If I have a question, how soon would they return my call or email?
  • Do I need a doctor with extended, evening or special office hours?
  • Does their gender matter to me?
  • Does their age matter to me?
  • How important is a doctor’s bedside manner?
  • How important is it that they respect my input or opinion?

Additionally, there are several types of PCPs to consider including family or general practitioners, who care for a wide range of health concerns and treat most anyone of any age; internists, who treat adults of all ages; pediatricians, who care for children and adolescents; and geriatricians, who specialize in the care of older adults.

Playing a more active role in your care not only means health problems could be caught before they become serious, but you can ask your PCP important questions such as how advised tests benefit you or how you’re concerned about following through on any recommendations they have.

As we’ve previously outlined, “TriHealth Healthy Directions,” and the resources being offered through it, are intended to lead employees and their families to a better, healthier life.
