Around Saia

This month, we're featuring the retirement of HGO  Cargo Claims Investigator Peggy Leblanc and a reminder that daylight saving time begins March 14.

Long-time Employee Retires

At the end of January, the HGO celebrated Cargo Claims Investigator Peggy Leblanc’s retirement. Peggy served Saia for over 26 years, starting in collections and moving to cargo claims for the remainder of her tenure.

“She was a dedicated employee and will be missed by all here,” said HGO Cargo Claims Manager Becky Pennison. “She will now enjoy spending time with her husband, 13 horses, and dogs. Of course, Peggy also loves shopping and spending precious time with friends.”

The entire Saia family wishes Peggy much luck on her new journey and sincerely appreciates her 26 years of dedication.

Daylight Saving Time Occurs in March

Don’t forget to spring forward!

This year, daylight saving time begins on March 14, when clocks will “spring forward” one hour and we lose an hour of sleep overnight.

Though it’s been staying light out a little later each day since the winter solstice on Dec. 21, the big change will occur at 2 a.m. on March 14 with this shift.

During winter, each day has roughly two-and-half more minutes of daylight than the previous day, with sunset slightly earlier and sunset slightly later until the summer solstice on June 20. At that point, the sun will begin to set a bit earlier each day.

The modern idea of daylight saving time was first proposed in 1895 by George Hudson, a New Zealand entomologist and astronomer.
