Around Saia

This month, we're featuring long-time employees that all recently announced their retirements.

HKY Terminal Manager Retires

Jimmy Jordan, the HKY terminal manager, retired at the end of March after 20 years with the company. He was honored for his service with a dinner hosted by Vice President of Operations East Jared Mull and CLT Regional Manager Stacy Shrider. Jimmy was a President’s Club honoree as well as the second recipient of the company’s Safety Award.  Jimmy, we wish you many years of relaxation and enjoyment. Your dedication and service were greatly appreciated! You will be missed by all those who knew and worked with you!

MON Supervisor Retires

HST Regional Manager David Hanlon and HST Regional Human Resource Manager Michael Jones, along with other fellow employees, recently had the privilege of honoring MON Dock Supervisor Birl Spicer who retired after 36 years with Saia at the MON terminal in Louisiana.

David said Birl told him he came to Monroe in the hopes of making it in the rodeo and that while there, he applied for a job with Saia. “Birl has done it all – from working the dock to city and linehaul driving to being a supervisor,” David explained. “His short-term, future plans are to go to Montgomery, Alabama to see his son, Ray, and two grandsons. While in Montgomery, Birl is set to pair with professional golfer John Daily in a senior tour golfing event.” David said Birl will be missed by himself and so many others at Saia. Birl, all of us wish you a long and wonderful retirement! Thank you for your years of service!

ATL Dockworker Retires

ATL Dockworker Terrell Johnson recently retired after a career spanning more than 25 years at the terminal. He was honored with a retirement party by his coworkers who all said they were going to miss him! Best of luck, Terrell! Thank you for your dedication to Saia. We hope you enjoy a long and joyous retirement!

SAN City Driver Juan Alvarado retired earlier this month – just one month shy of 26 years of service, according to SAN Business Development Executive Tammy Leal. Juan was honored by the terminal and his peers with a cake. Juan, thank you for your service! All of us at Saia wish you a wonderful, happy retirement full of new beginnings!
