Company Update

This month's Company Update spotlights the announcement of the new manager of talent development, the new workers’ compensation manager and several new terminal managers.

Champion Named Manager of Talent Development

Cheralyn Champion has been named Saia’s new manager of talent development. With over 25 years of extensive and practical organizational development experience, Cheralyn will oversee the design, development, and delivery of learning and development programs. This will further enhance the skills and performance of our employees at all levels across the company.

Though Cheralyn is new to Saia and the transportation industry, she is adept at driving thoughtful levels of engagement and her curiosity, research-based approach, and development expertise will enable employees across the company to achieve growth within and beyond their respective positions. She has worked with the likes of the Coca-Cola Company, Grady Health System, Eskenazi Health, and National City Bank, bringing extensive experience with her to Saia.

Cheralyn holds master’s degrees in both industrial and organizational psychology and adult education/human resource (HR) development from the University of Georgia and Indiana/Purdue University, respectively. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Indiana University Northwest in Gary, Indiana. She also attended Georgia State University, where she was a student in their post baccalaureate HR program.

Martinez Appointed Workers’ Compensation Manager

Following the retirement of Megan Lane, Erin Carlos Martinez has been promoted to the workers’ compensation manager position. Erin’s new role has her responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing the entire workers’ compensation program at Saia. She will oversee day-to-day activities with internal personnel and our third party administrator. Erin has been working at Saia since 1999 and has served in the Workers’ Compensation Department for the majority of that time.

New Terminal Managers Named

Several new managers have been named in our Cincinnati Region. First, Shane Espenlaub has been named our new EFF and EVA zone terminal manager. He has over a decade of experience in the transportation industry and has worked as a sales executive, operations manager, and terminal manager.

Next is Nathaniel Jarvis who has been promoted to the LEX terminal manager position. Nathaniel joined Saia in 2019 and had been serving as an operations supervisor. He has nine years of transportation experience, both in trucking and in railroad.

Additionally, Heather Lee has been promoted to the SAG terminal manager position. She joined Saia last year and had been serving as the facility’s operations manager. She has 20 years of industry experience. Prior to joining Saia, she worked as a terminal manager for two other carriers.

Last, but certainly not least, Mark Self, is our new LOU terminal manager. He has nearly 20 years of industry experience and has worked as both a sorting manager and dedicated transportation manager.
