This month's Around Saia features the Women in Trucking Association honoring Saia Vice President of Human Resources Michelle Richard as one of the Top Women to Watch in Transportation. Also featured are stories on the retirement of HGO Traffic Customer Service Representative Dina Touchard, DHL Supply Chain's selection of Saia LTL Freight as National LTL Carrier of the Year, and a reminder that Saia is looking for volunteers for the Appeal Review Committee (ARC).

Richard Named Top Woman to Watch in Transportation

This March, the Women in Trucking Association (WIT) announced its second annual list of Top Women to Watch in Transportation. Among those selected was Saia Vice President of Human Resources Michelle Richard.

The editorial staff of WIT’s Redefining the Road magazine selected the individuals for their significant career accomplishments in the past 12 to 18 months as well as their efforts to promote gender diversity.

“This year, we’ve identified 53 women who stand out as top performers in a field of highly qualified nominees,” said Brian Everett, group editorial director and publisher of Redefining the Road magazine. “They represent a diverse range of company types and a variety of roles and responsibilities, showcasing the many career opportunities for women in the transportation industry.”

The 2019 Top Women to Watch in Transportation work for motor carriers, third-party logistics companies, equipment manufacturers, retailer truck dealers, professional services companies, technology innovators, and private fleets.

“It is exciting to see so many remarkable women not only pushing the envelope in their own careers but also supporting women around them,” said Ellen Voie, WIT president and CEO. “Celebrating the accomplishments of women in our industry is central to the mission of WIT, so we’re especially pleased to recognize these industry leaders.”

Touchard Retires from HGO

HGO Traffic Customer Service Representative Dina Touchard recently retired after 25 years with Saia.  She is looking forward to helping with her family’s personal businesses. We wish you all the best, Dina!

Congratulations and best of luck to you in your new endeavors!

Saia Named DHL “National LTL Carrier of the Year”

Saia LTL Freight was recently honored by DHL Supply Chain, part of Deutsche Post DHL Group, at the company’s annual carrier summit where select carrier customers were recognized for their superior performance last year. Saia was named“National LTL Carrier of the Year” at the event held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. More than 70 North American carriers participated in the summit.

"We are pleased to be honored by DHL with this award," said Saia Director of3PL Sales Scott Jandacek. “This recognition validates the wonderful service Saia provides all its customers."

DHL measures carrier execution via several core key performance indicators including on-time performance, on-time delivery, tender acceptance and visibility performance along with other attributes or value creation items such as ease of doing business with and customer service.

ARC Reminder

The Appeal Review Committee (ARC) provides recently terminated employees with an opportunity to have their cases reviewed by a committee of their peers to ensure a fair and impartial decision led to their termination.

The ARC panel consists of volunteer Saia employees who have met ARC’s eligibility requirements, which is why we are again asking for employees across the Saia network to volunteer to be a panelist. By volunteering, ARC panelists provide a great service to not only their fellow employees but to the company as well.

Training for new panelists, who will be paid for their time and travel, will be held from July 14-16, 2019 at the ACO. A volunteer sign-up form, which can be found on the Employee Information Center (EIC) beginning May 6, will need to be returned to the ACO Human Resource Department no later than May 24.
